Coconut oil over olive oil?
An age-old question that seems to plague the beauty community is whether coconut oil or olive oil makes our hair shinier and healthier. Without getting into all the science behind the oils, let's stick to the basic facts and focus on shine and moisture.
Moisturizing and deep conditioning
Coconut oil can repair the look of your damaged hair and build it up so it can be protected against heat damages. It does so by introducing moisture into your hair and giving it a nice and beautiful shine. Unsurprisingly, the same benefits are touted by olive oil, but honestly, it just does not smell as good!
DIY Coconut Mask: For dry hair
2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp. Honey
1 Egg
Melt the coconut oil on a stovetop or in the microwave.
Whisk the egg in a separate bowl; then combine the egg with the heated coconut oil. Add the honey and whisk again until the mixture is consistent.
Wait for the mixture to cool, then apple to DRY hair and leave on for wrap your hair in a shower cap, t-shirt, or towel for thirty minutes.
Finish up by rinsing out the hair mask with water and shampoo. You may need two or three rinses to entirely wash out the mask, so work those arms!
DIY Coconut Mask: For glossy-shiny hair
2 Tbsp. Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
1 Tbsp. Apple Cider Vinegar
Heat the coconut oil until it's melted.
Then combine it with the apple cider vinegar in a bowl, mixing well.
Apply the mask to dry or damp hair in sections, evenly covering each section from root to tip.
Leave on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse out.
Follow with your routine shampoo and conditioner.
