Despite the fact that the term green living has been a buzzword for quite a few years, it is only now that people are becoming more eco-conscious and are looking at doing their bit to save the planet.

Global warming is now not just a term used by scientists to describe a strange and unknown phenomenon. It is a reality that stares us in the face, and unless we all start contributing to saving our planet now, we may not have a planet left.

So, if you want to be a part of the movement to save our planet, then here are 10 surprising things you can do every week.

1. Bring Your Own Cup

Do you know that disposable coffee cups are not recyclable? They are lined with plastic and contaminated with coffee and so cannot be recycled effectively, leading to billions of pounds of waste being added to our already polluted mother earth.

You can do your bit by not using disposable cups any more and carrying your own mug. You’ll not only save money (places like Starbucks give you a 10% discount for brining your own cup!), but you will also save the planet!

2. Eat Less Meat

The livestock industry is responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the transport industry! What’s worse is that forests across the world – the lungs of the planet – are being destroyed to make more room for the livestock industry.

By simply cutting down on the amount of meat and meat products you consume, you could help cut down on the need for such a large industry, and do your bit to save our planet. Added to that, you will also become healthier!

3. Save Energy

This one seems pretty obvious – turn out the lights when you’re not in the room, turn off air conditioners and so on. However, did you know that a lot of energy is consumed by those bright laptop, desktop and mobile screens too?

Or that if you adjust your thermostat settings by a mere 2 degrees, you could end up saving a lot of energy?

There are so many ways in which you can save energy every single day. And it helps you too, since you will end up with a lower energy bill and save some money!

3. Save Water

Little things can go a long way. Turn off that tap when you’re brushing your teeth. Make sure that you do a full load of laundry, rather than small loads. Fix leaks in your home – not only will this save water, but it will also reduce damage to your home and cut down on your utility bills.

4. Stop Drinking Bottled Water

If you carry your own water bottle and use filtered water, you will save a lot of money in the long run. Not only that, this little step with contribute to reducing water consumption and the use of single-use plastic bottles – another evil that is polluting our planet!

5. Buy Used Items & Clothing

One of the biggest issues we are facing today is that of consumption. We are buying too much and then wasting what we buy. Think about going this week without buying anything new. We don’t need all those clothes, or that pair of shoes, or that new cell phone just because it’s the latest gadget in the market.
