Kindness Doubles When You Share It
The phenomenon of seeing someone be kind, for no other reason, than to be kind, as a two fold effect, that can, and does grow exponentially.
The act of smiling, picking up groceries for someone in need, that rogue mitten that was dropped on the ground, and putting it on the a post, or even just checking in on a neighbour, creates a cocktail of feel good hormones for both the person being kind, and the person who is receiving the kindness.
Serotonin, Oxytocin and Endorphins, swirl around in your blood stream to create connection with the person you have engaged with. This connection is so strong, that it inspires others who have been on the receiving end to reciprocate, and even go on to participate in this kindness wave.
The additional beautiful and heartwarming part of this exchange, is that others see your kindness and response, and are then 'infected' to create more good, altruism is a great way to be more happy and purposeful. The epicenter of one person engaging in a kind act creates a ripple that moves outward in a wonderful and positive way.
Helping others also helps you realize that your focus on someone else's happiness, makes you less stressed about your own 'problems', challenges or woes. The focus time on others means less time to belabor and ruminate over your own issues. These helping bi-products of health and increased feeling of well being, helps to perpetuate this behaviour of giving and altruism. We are all of that!
Take a look at this kindness chart and how the spread from one person can multiply, and multiply until the hormonal happiness become intrinsic. 'When people are irrationally generous, others follow suit.'
Sharing is Caring, and we could all use some positive spirit and good will right now. Exponential growth attached to a positive outcome. Give us MORE of that!
Humans are wired (neurologically and hormonal) to connect and react to each other. Taking a positive spin on creating situations that enhance kindness, help to make us all happier.
So, check in on that neighbour, and ask how you might help out. The thank you you will receive will flush you with another round of happiness hormones, and the person you are helping, as well. Then, they'll want to continue this warm fuzzy feeling and 'pay-it-forward', and so on, and so on, and so on.....
Congratulations! You just started a feel good train, no tickets or waiting for the next train, needed. CHOO CHOO CHOO!
